State Issues:
“Vote In Honor of a Veteran” Buttons Available
The Secretary of State’s Office is taking orders for buttons to honor our veterans on Election Day. The button, which reads “I'm Ving in Honor of a Veteran,” is personalized with the name of a veteran the voter wants to recognize for his or her sacrifices to ensure our freedoms, including the right to vote.
Order forms for the Vote in Honor of a Veteran button can be found at http://www.maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/voter_info/veteran/index.html. The buttons are mailed directly to the voters’ homes, and there is no cost for the button or for the shipping. To receive the button before the election, voters should place their orders as soon as possible.
Date Of Youth Deer Hunting Day Set
The 2010 Youth Deer Hunting Day is Saturday, October 23. Hunters between the ages of 10 and 16 who hold a valid junior hunting license are allowed to take one deer with a firearm, crossbow or bow and arrow on this day. If they shoot a deer on this day, they are prohibited from taking any additional deer, unless they have been awarded a bonus antlerless-deer permit or participate in the expanded archery season with appropriate permits.
The parent, guardian or qualified adult shall not possess a firearm while accompanying a youth hunter. All laws pertaining to hunting during the open firearms season on deer apply on Youth Deer Hunting Day. For more information on hunting in Maine, including the dates of all seasons, visit http://www.maine.gov/ifw/hunting_trapping/index.htm.
