Maine Forest Service Establishes Online Request Form
The Maine Forest Service (MFS) has begun offering an easy online request form to allow woodland owners to get free advice regarding their property. The service allows woodland owners to get the process started to meet in person with one of the state’s district foresters. District foresters provide technical assistance, informational and educational services to a variety of clients.
The online form requests basic information about the landowner and the property. Information is kept confidential for landowners with less than 1,000 acres and requests are processed as quickly as possible. You may find the new request form at http://www.maine.gov/doc/mfs/fpm/df_visit.htm.
State Officials Urge Caution Regarding Investments
Officials with the Maine Office of Securities recently reminded consumers to be cautious regarding possible investments. The public is urged to be well-informed regarding scams and other problems, in order to avoid losing their money. Those rebuilding their portfolio after the collapse of the market or those frustrated with low interest rates are most susceptible to risky or bogus investments. Once your money is transferred to someone else’s control, it can be extremely difficult to get it back.
Consumers may call the Office of Securities at 1-877-624-855 to verify the credentials of any individual or firm offering an investment. You may also check a license through the Office of Securities website at http://www.maine.gov/pfr/securities/index.shtml; just click “Check a Broker or Adviser” in the menu on the left.
Officials Warn Of Fire Danger
State and federal officials recently warned that extremely dry conditions throughout the state have led to a high risk of fire. Stream flows are below usual levels statewide, and some areas are seeing very low groundwater as well. Some streams and rivers have set new record low water flows. The Maine Forest Service reports fire conditions daily; the current conditions are available online at http://www.maine.gov/doc/mfs/.
